Rustic Slide In End Table

Hi there! Thanks for checking out my latest build! I have been wanting a little table on my side of the couch for quite a while, but needed something that didn’t take up too much space. This little Rustic Slide In End Table is perfect! I designed it so the feet slide under the couch and the top hangs over the arm rest, the perfect spot for a drink and snack on movie night, or for my Bible when I’m doing devotions.

This build is essentially made up of a base and top, which come together super quick!

I also added some 4″ Corner Braces at the top and bottom of the frame for extra support.

It’s this time of year I’m always extra appreciative of this guy right here! 23 years ago we were sitting in the burn center in SLC- by now I knew he was going to live at least, but we still had a long hard road ahead. His face was a ball of goo, his ear melted to his head. If you’d have asked I would have told you I’d never again get to see that sparkle in his eyes or the smile I fell in love with - but at least he was going to live!
The way he winked at me just now as he headed out for the day proved it all wrong and is such beautiful icing on the cake! If you aren’t sure whether or not miracles are real- everything about this picture proves they are very real and still happen! I will never stop thanking Jesus for not only sparing Brad’s life- but for sparing his good looks too :)

“We’re not growing a garden, we’re raising kids”, Brad’s words from a couple decades ago still ring in my ears. I was stressed out about little Cody eating the garden seeds we were supposed to be planting and pulling up plants instead of weeds.
I’m so thankful for the wise words of my husband to change my perspective! Sometimes we’ve got to zoom out and look at the big picture!
I am so humbled by the man that little guy turned out to be! He is full of integrity, hard work, consistency, a love for God, incredible patience and persistence and such a fun sense of humor! And I am still absolutely crazy about his wise father who still gives me great advice and who has graciously handed Cody the reigns while giving him whatever support he needs on the farm. It is magical to see them working together!
So thankful for the life we get to live and to God who gives it!

I’m always fascinated by the way our dog, Bodie, watches Brad. His life centers around the moments he gets to be with Brad, so his time is spent watching, waiting, anticipating Brad’s next move, trying to predict which door he will come out of, so excited to be with him the moment he steps out.
I jokingly asked Brad the other day- “how does it feel to be so loved?” His answer surprised me- “In a way I’m kind of jealous of him. I wish I was more like that with Jesus.”
Oh, how true. I’m so much more like Martha in the Bible, who all about getting the work done- than I am like Mary- who sat at the feet of Jesus in adoration.
Obviously, we are more complex than dogs, and there is work to be done. But, I’m realizing I need to slow down more often to PRESS IN and to wait on the Lord, to sit in ADORATION.
After all, He is THE answer- He is what our souls long for!
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” Psalm 42:1-2
Do you know Him? He loves you so much and is the only one who will satisfy! I’ve tasted and I’ve seen.

Sometimes I’m a little indecisive. I built this huge cabinet for our dining room but couldn’t make up my mind- regular doors, drawers, barn doors- and this cabinet has been doorless for way too long!
I let indecision get the best of me. Sometimes you’ve gotta just make a choice and quit worrying if it’s the right one. I’m loving how these doors turned out! 😊

Shelb texted the other day from YWAM to share a revelation she’d had about asking questions. Instead of glossing over something in the Bible she didn’t understand and moving to something that made sense- she’s learning to press in to the question. To ask questions in faith that He will answer- and just rest comfortably in the silence while you wait.
PRESS IN. Ask questions. Wait.
Having spent much of my life thinking asking questions meant you were too dumb to figure it out- this does not come naturally to me! But I want it to. So I’m practicing.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5
Here’s to PRESSING IN, asking questions, and waiting on the Lord.

Perspective. I signed up for @clairepthomas core challenge, but the before and after pics- ugh I hate those! Normally I avoid things that require them but you can’t keep doing the same things and expect different results- so I’m doing it this time!
I see myself every day, but don’t really look. Taking the pics and actually looking at them was a punch in the face. I can tell myself I’m doing pretty good- good enough- when I’m dressed in perfect clothes and looking at just the right angle. It made me realize how much I try to hide my flaws. Why is this? On the surface, I’m pretty vulnerable and certainly aware of how far I am from perfection and by no means do I think I’m better than anyone else- so who cares about some silly pics, right?
But dig down a little and I’m still that tough nut to crack independent girl who doesn’t want to be judged. I know I’m probably the only one judging me- I do enough of that for all of us. Is this what it is? Fear of how others will see me? Or fear of realizing how I see myself?
I have struggled in the past with my why being for all the wrong reasons, then held myself back in fear of being perceived as vain for wanting more, for caring about my body. But I think God calls us to more, doesn’t He?
If we are given one life, one body, and are a representation of Him-shouldn’t we want to be and do our best? There is something rising in me to do and be more- to conquer this thing instead of staying here at “good enough”.
So, we’re switching it up- I’m ripping the bandaid off and turning those pics in. I’m taking a good hard look at myself and throwing off the things that are holding me back! And I’m doing my best to embrace those imperfections- this body in all its flaws has given us 4 beautiful babies and carried me to some amazing places!
I hope you give yourself some grace today, do something kind for your body, and embrace the beauty that is you 🙂

I used to dread cleaning– toilets especially. But, we are in the service industry and cleaning is a huge part of it. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Does it? I found myself grouchy, taking it personal.
Philippians 2 talks about the heart of Jesus-who took on human flesh, became nothing, died on a cross-for us. And we are to “do everything without complaining…”
Why? “So that you may be blameless and pure…and shine like stars.” Until you’ve seen the sky burst with stars in a place undiluted by city lights- this might not have the same impact. Here, stars shine so bright they take your breath away. I started praying for the heart of a servant, so I can shine baby. It’s so hard to live out.
I have this great attitude and servant’s heart, then comes someone excessively messy, or a group supposed to clean and doesn’t. My servant heart dissolves, I find myself complain-singing, “Shot through the heart, and you’re to blame!!”
I get cleaning, but does it matter if I have a bad attitude? Where’d that servant’s heart go? I’m grumbling. No stars here, friend. The only thing gonna be sparkling are these toilets.
I go back to Philippians and pray for my heart to be more like Jesus. Not just cleaning, but all areas of my life. I decide I’m going to love cleaning. Especially toilets.
I struggle with pride, too. Well, it’s hard to be prideful on your hands and knees cleaning pee. So, bring it on toilets. This is my training.
I began begging Jesus-help me be humble, to love everyone like you do, please Jesus, help me have a servant’s heart…I asked for new perspective, to quit being selfish-this is not about me. How will the world have any hope of seeing a speck of Jesus in me if I’m grumbling? And you know what happened? By His amazing grace, Jesus showed up. There. At the toilets.
In the lowest place, He came to join me. Not once, but every time. It became the best prayer time. I found myself thankful for toilets, because it’s where I knew I could go to find the One I seek to be like. I’ve got a long ways to go, but I’m working on it.
I wonder what that low place is for you? Wherever it is- if you ask- God will be there. I know, because Jesus meets me at the toilets.

Last post I wrote about not getting hard and loving this place I’m in.
Then Wyoming ramped up with some of her worst behavior to see if I really meant it.
We’ve had horrible drought the last 2 years- used up all our reserves. Then this year comes along even more dry than the last and things are getting pretty desperate. Every forecast for moisture proves to be a trick and I look on all the animals with pity- knowing hay is a poor substitute for fresh green grass in the spring. My heart breaks for my farmer as the land is literally blowing away. The wind has been relentless- packing a grudge. I start to wonder if we’re about to relive the dust bowl days of the 1930s. It’s been a beast. I feel my heart trying to go to that place. Don’t get hard.
Another storm in the forecast- rain followed by snow. Will it amount to anything? You’ve cried wolf so many times. But, we’ve got to be prepared. Put out hay bales where you predict the cows will end up, bust it like a madman to get seed in the ground in case it’s for real this time. Then you wait. You hope. You pray.
And this time it actually starts to rain.
RAIN! Best rain we’ve had in over 2 years. We’re gonna grow some grass! We go to bed with a burden lifted, but also fear. It’s going to turn to snow. We’re in the middle of calving. How bad will it be?
In the night we hear the wind howling. We’ve done everything we could to prepare.
We wake the next morning to a horrible blizzard. A land of extremes this Wyoming- she’s really throwing her fury at us. This is not good for the cows. Brad tries to go out- conditions are impossible! Everything is shut down- roads are closed, power out and again we wait. We hope. We pray.
It lasts all day and we know it’s going to be bad. She finally settles and we get out and find that precious moisture did not come for free. As we discover the casualties in her wake, Wyoming puts on her best face and brings out the sunshine. It’s bittersweet. The thing we desperately needed came at such a cost. But we press on. We’ll lace these boots up with wire if we have to. But we won’t get hard. For our hope lies in the Lord who walks beside us in the good and the bad. 💙💚

“Don’t get hard.” When he first said it, I totally didn’t get it. Why or how could I ever be hardened by this place and life I love?
I had loaded up my car at 18 and set for this place that had awakened my soul. I had gotten just a taste the summer before- enough to know this was where I belonged. This time I was back for good.
Land stretched out before me- the air so fresh and crisp, sunsets full of more color than I had ever seen. Days so calm you could smell the antelope that had been there before you. The night sky so full of stars it seemed the canopy of black might burst open.

Get hard? How could I ever. This place had captivated me. It had rained so much that first summer, I had been fooled into thinking green grass and flowing creek beds were a long-term concept.
This place soon revealed it does not come lined in bubble wrap. It is covered in cactus and filled with rattlesnakes and will snatch your dreams out from under you any chance it gets.
It’s been a couple decades now and this place has broken my heart more times than I can count. I’ve poured my heart into animals that died while I fought to save them; set my hopes on a garden that froze in the middle of summer; seen the hay we were counting on go up in flames; crops flattened by hail the day before harvest; another drought when you’ve begged for rain; been deceived by the ones I was sure I could trust; sat by my husband fighting for his life; and had to toughen up countless times to do the thing that terrified me- because out here you have to make do and make it work.

So, get hard? I get it now. It’s enough to tempt you to quit trying, quit dreaming, quit loving, quit trusting. Sometimes I wish I could go back- to see through those eyes full of innocent wonder again. But, on the flip side- knowing risk and the pain of loss so well, makes the rewards that much sweeter. When life and death are so real- you don’t take them for granted.
Nothing draws you to your creator like having to depend on Him for everything.
So, yeah hard. I get it. But how do I keep from being it? I go back to the big picture, shift my perspective. I remember where my hope lies- in the only One big enough to handle it.

One year ago today Brad left for Survivor- what a wild ride it’s been! Before this, the longest we’d been apart was 2 weeks and it felt like eternity. I knew 2 months was going to be a beast! And it was.
Trying to fill Brad’s shoes made my appreciation level shoot through the roof- and it was already pretty high! I am still in awe at all the things he is able to juggle at once- and make it look easy. I am a poor substitute.
But we have a great crew here on the ranch. And our kids are total rock stars! They really stepped up while Brad was gone.
A super hard time was made excruciating because we could not tell where Brad was- it was easier to just cover the fact that he was even gone.
It was unquestionably the hardest time of my life and contained some of my worst moments. I spent a lot of time begging Jesus for help, and I’m so glad he showed up! We were living our own version of Survivor and there was certainly a lot of digging deep! Despite the hard times- I’d do it all again in a heartbeat, though!
I knew it was going to be about more than just a tv show and in the end it has really been about the people. I’m so proud of our kids and crew and am so appreciative of the support we’ve gotten along the way- sometimes by people who didn’t even know what was going on!
One of the best parts has been the reward of our whole fam getting to know some of Survivor 41’s finest- what incredible people!!
Sara, Xander, Genie, and Sydney- thanks for making all the hard times worth playing for!!

I really love home, but Utah keeps proving it’s

I really love home, but Utah keeps proving it’s worth the drive! The scenery plus some pretty rad people! I didn’t get a pic of our stop @sheepfeetoutdoors but what awesome people! And some pretty incredible custom orthotics.
Was too busy having fun to post these earlier but Arches was fab! Brad has some mad skills getting all 6 of us plus the arch in a selfie- all while not falling over the edge 😉
